What You Will Learn

Learn how to create beautiful and realistic glass leaves and incorporate them into a pâte de verre glass bowl. Taught by professional US glass artist Evelyn Gottschall Baker.

In this class, you will learn how to create your own reusable casting moulds, and how to fire the glass powders to produce delicate and realistic glass leaves and incorporate them into a delicate glass bowl made with the pâte de verre method. All this, along with extra tips and techniques for glass making from a professional artist.

One of the most difficult challenges in kiln-formed glass is to create natural forms with intricate details. You will learn how to make simple, reusable open-face plaster moulds, which will be used to make glass leaves. Once the leaves have been cast, they can be incorporated as components into other work. Students will make 3-4 moulds, which can be reused multiple times. Although this class focuses on creating realistic leaves, the mould-making process can be used for other objects, as well.

How it Works:

  • The course is made up of three live and interactive online sessions using the Zoom platform. You will find the zoom link via the week chapters in the navigation panel.
  • Evelyn will give a step-by-step tutorial with demonstrations, and you will have ample opportunity to ask her questions during the live class
  • Each week they will demonstrate a technique for you to try between sessions
  • A member of the Warm Glass team will also be in the Zoom class to assist you and Evelyn
  • Mix with Evelyn and other students on our dedicated community page, open for the duration of the course. Then join our exclusive Warm Glass UK Online Glass Community Facebook group to continue to mix with those who have attended any of our online masterclasses
  • A materials list is provided in the course navigation panel, so you can purchase what you need to create your pieces during the course. You don’t need absolutely everything on this list to be successful, Evelyn will discuss different ways to reach our technical goals.

We believe that this is the best way to get the very most from the course, but if this doesn’t suit you that’s fine: - If you can’t get to your studio, you can still learn the techniques and benefit from Amanda's extensive knowledge without making the pieces during the course itself.

This is a live online masterclass, but in case a student experiences issues with internet connection during the live class, a recording of each live session will be available to view until two weeks after the final session. This cannot be downloaded or shared and is only available for this limited time. By participating you agree to be recorded for this purpose.

These recordings will be available in the course navigation panel.

Evelyn Gottschall Baker

Evelyn has studied watercolour, oil painting, stained glass and fused glass, which allowed her to pursue a career as a glass artist, alongside her professional role as a Test Engineer, from which she has now retired to concentrate fully on her art. "Living in Colorado, I find it natural to try to capture the beauty of our local landscape into works of art using glass. I have fully embraced a realistic style, and have begun to use both traditional and non-traditional casting and mould techniques to create sculptures that depict the beauty around me. I strive to take viewers to that place where I looked down and was inspired by what I saw."
