'Mirrors of the Third Dimension': Cast Glass as a Canvas with Joanna Manousis
Seminar Outline by Joanna Manousis:
Mapping the trajectory of Joanna Manousis’ practice-based PhD at The National Glass Centre, this lecture will explore the reflective potential of cast glass sculpture as a canvas for a range of mirror effects. The aim is to expand the creative possibilities of the silvering processes in cast glass applications while offering practitioners the ability to dictate surface precision, reflection and shine by the method, glass body, refractory, firing and the original form they choose to cast. Modifying refractory ingredients that help to prevent the adhesion of glass to a refractory surface will be explored, along with chemical polishing processes used to bring crystal to a peak clarity and shine without effacing details.
